Case Study: Silverchef

How to get, and keep, B Corp Certification

The Challenge

Silverchef is Australia’s largest specialist hospitality
equipment financier having pioneered flexible finance solutions (“Rent-Try-Buy”) on commercial kitchen equipment. With nearly 40% of their customers unable to qualify for traditional financing, purpose is at the heart of what they do. They provide opportunities to disadvantaged communities and enable people to start their own restaurants and businesses.

To maintain B Corp Certification, businesses need to reapply every 3 years. Silverchef engaged Purpose Made during its recertification process having grown as an organisation and needing new ways to demonstrate its impact on the community, its people and the environment.

The Process

Purpose Made brought Silverchef working group through the BIA: B Corp Impact Assessment to understand its current state of impact and business model.

The team then undertook an analysis that identified current gaps and ‘must haves’ to maintain status.

The team developed a Roadmap with initiatives needed to achieve the minimum viable score. These Roadmaps halve the implementation time by prioritising areas that work for your business and have the most impact.

Purpose Made conducted an impact and environmental assessment as well as developing modelling to report on these areas

The Outcome

Silverchef achieved B Corp Certification and are able to demonstrate the purpose and impact of their brand to customers and stakeholders

Going through this B Corp Assessment additionally helps companies identify their ESG strategies.
